| Bio: |  When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life. - Samuel Johnson Well...to say I was tired of London was going too far. But I wanted to get out into the world... ....so I found myself in Russia. Up to now my attempts to conquer it have failed, but I still have time. Unless it conquers me first. It does get cold here and yes, life can indeed be hard sometimes - but isn't that the same everywhere? After arriving in summer 2002 and a brief stint in the camp from hell©, I spent two years teaching in Zelenograd, a satellite town of Moscow and since then have moved to the big smoke itself. I suspect that despite my original idea to travel and see more of the world, Russia has stuck it's claws into me and I'll be here for a while yet. It does that to people - you either find it mesmerising and stay or get out as soon as you can. Even the more dubious delights of this place (cabbage buns?) cannot quite drive me away. Nor can the joys of red tape (though it's making a very fair attempt...) Who knows, I may even become reasonably good at Russian if I work on it (ha)... Ultimately, life here is just life. If there's anything you learn from living abroad, it's that people and their lives are essentially the same, wherever you go. Mostly, anyway. These days I've settled into a pattern, this place is practically my home. So don't expect a travel journal - not anymore at least - aside from my annual trips to somewhere in Russia. Food seems to be my thing these days - I find preparing food relaxing, it's a comfort to me, so expect to read a lot of food posts. At least, until my next fad :) If you want to read my journal, it is friends only. You must be a member of Lj and a mutual friend in order to read my entries.
